Garner Asset Project and the Garner-Hayfield School District are offering a new after-school program for 6th graders this year called ALL STARS.

Sessions will be held on Wednesday afternoons from 2:15-3:15 when one hour early-outs are scheduled. The fall semester’s 12 sessions are planned to begin September 17 and run through December 17.

A science-based curriculum, ALL STARS is interactive, thought-provoking, and fun.  The program promotes bonding with family, school and community. It encourages parents and kids to talk about aspirations and commitments. ALL STARS also helps prevent substance use, bullying, and other risky behaviors. The sessions will be taught by Jay Pedelty, Prairie Ridge Prevention Specialist.

A meeting for 6th grade parents is scheduled on August 26th during before-school conferences, when parents may register their child for either 1st or 2nd semester. Each semester is limited to 25 students.

This program is offered with financial support from the Safe & Drug Free Schools Grant (IA Dept.of Public Health)
